Scientific Instrument Makers Hall

9 Montague Close,
Southwark,
London
SE1 9DD

Historically all Livery companies had their own hall in the City of London. However since the early 20th century, when the number of modern livery companies started to be formed, this has become less common. In fact, whilst there are currently 110 livery companies there are only 40 or so livery halls.

The Scientific Instrument Makers share their hall with the Glaziers and the Launderers. The usual name for the hall is Glaziers Hall. It is one of only two Halls just outside the City boundaries although as it is built into the structure of London Bridge it might be considered just inside.

London Bridge is the nearest train, tube and bus station (Northern and Jubilee Lines). If you are coming from north of the river, the nearest tube station is Monument, on the north side of London Bridge.

Use the Transport for London Journey Planner to plan your trip and follow the directions below.

From London Bridge underground station, go through the ticket barrier and follow signs to Duke’s Hill. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and go left into Tooley Street. Pass under London Bridge, with the Mug House on your right. Glaziers Hall is the first building on the right after you have passed under the bridge.

From the City you need to walk on the west side of London Bridge, and as you get halfway along the first building on the south side, there is a flight of steep stone steps (known as the Nancy Steps). Go down these, turn right and the entrance to Glaziers Hall is the first building on the right.
