The Master is delighted to invite you to his weekend away 16-18 May in the beautiful counties of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
Provisional details are as follows and a coach will be hired to take those attending to all the venues. He would appreciate your confirmation of attendance and deposit by 9th March 2025.
Accommodation
The weekend will centre around the Blunsdon House Hotel, Blunsdon, Wiltshire, SN26 7AS. However, you may choose to stay somewhere else if you wish.
Example prices: The hotel is currently holding 15 Main House rooms @£95 B&B + 5 Pavilion Exec rooms @£115 B&B for 3 nights. Singles are rate minus £5.
Please book by telephone 01793 721701 and mention the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers Weekend – the receptionists Linda or Sandrine will book you into one of the allocated rooms. It is your choice whether you join for 2 or 3 nights.
Schedule
The planned excursions are outlined below, and you are asked to indicate on the booking form any that you do not wish to attend. Overall, the cost of events is expected to be £250 per person for 2-nighters / £300 per person for 3-nighters. A deposit of £100 is requested on booking with the remainder sought before the weekend.
Friday
Reception and Dinner
Jim and Pauline invite you to a champagne reception. This will be followed by dinner which will be held at Blunsdon House Hotel. Local historian Bill King to speak about the area after dinner.
Dress: Business Casual.
Saturday
Breakfast at Blunsdon House Hotel.
Morning: Visit to STEAM railway museum in Swindon.
Afternoon: Visit to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Museum, MOD Lyneham.
Lunch: May be taken at either STEAM or REME museums both of which have amply stocked cafes. (pay on day)
Evening: Jim and Pauline have arranged dinner which will be held at Wrag Barn Golf Club, Highworth.
Dress: Business Casual.
Sunday
Breakfast at Blunsdon House Hotel.
Morning: Guided tour of Cirencester organised by local guide William Cooper.
Lunch: The Crown at Ampney Brook, Ampney Crucis, Cirencester GL7 5RS.
Afternoon: Return to the hotel. Farewell to those departing, those members staying on the three-night package are free to relax at the hotel – spa, gym or bar.
Dinner: Served in a private room for those remaining.
Monday
Breakfast at Blunsdon House Hotel.
Depart after breakfast.
Costings
The final cost for excursions will be refined once final numbers are known but they are estimated to be £250-300. A deposit of £100 per person is requested at time of booking as a number of the venues have already taken prepayment.
