The WCSIM enjoyed a great day out at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, organised by the Manchester SIM Hub, on Saturday 13th April 2024.
Our day unfolded with a range of museum exhibitions, each unveiling the history and scientific breakthroughs made both on the site and more broadly by the astronomical community. A series of inspirational films displayed on the planetarium screens documented the history of Jodrell Bank and the Apollo 11 moon landing, revealing the historical links between the two. The Jodrell team did a fantastic job providing us with a delicious lunch, and the rain held off just long enough for us to explore the beautiful grounds. Of course, we also got to marvel at the Lovell Telescope itself, which stands as a monument to British science in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. The day concluded with an enthusiastic telescope talk, delivered by the Jodrell Bank team.
Of course, it was the people that really made the day special with 19 SIM members making the trip from across the country to join us.
