It is with the greatest sadness that we learned of the death of Past Master Ken Sanders BSc, DSc, CCMI following his valiant battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
A graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London, Ken spent his entire career in the semiconductor industry. Following a four-year research spell at Marconi, he joined Texas Instruments and rose to become Managing Director. He then led a management buyout of their Power Semiconductor business which was eventually acquired by the California based company Bourns.
During his career Ken has served as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts & Commerce, Chairman of Young Engineers, Director of the British Quality Foundation, Chairman of the UK Semiconductor Manufacturers Association and the UK Representative of the European Electronic Components Manufacturers Association.
He has been an exemplary member of our Company, serving as Master in the 2018/19 year. His contributions to the development of our aims and objectives and especially his focus on the support and development of our Apprentices represent a permanent reminder of his enthusiasm and effectiveness. His Master’s Gift was a substantial sum given to support the annual SIMposium, an event that celebrates younger members cutting edge research. His brave determination to overcome the limitations he experienced as the MND progressed was inspirational as he continued to attend our meetings and events for as long as he possibly could.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his widow Maureen and his family who provided amazing support throughout his illness.
Ken will be sorely missed by us all.
