The Academy for Healthcare Science – Sustainability and the Circular Economy in  the NHS Webinar.

The AHCS’s latest webinar “Sustainability and the Circular Economy in the NHS” took place on 9th October 2025.  Chaired by Professor Stephen O’Connor, it focused on sustainability in healthcare within our NHS. And featured two expert speakers who are both at the cutting edge of sustainability.
The Webinar can be viewed in full via the following YouTube link.

0:00:00 – Introduction by Professor Stephen O’Connor
0:00:50 – Alexandra Hammond – NHS Sustainable Procurement
0:25:20 – Dr Hammad Jeilani – Apian Ltd
0:59:26 – Question and Answer Segment
Alexandra Hammond, a highly respected and influential scientist and procurement expert from NHS England, presents the current successes, challenges and ethical issues in procurement for the NHS at a national level. We also hear about the wider supply chain delivering an 80% reduction in emissions by 2036-2039 and Net Zero by 2045. The second speaker is Dr Hammad Jeilani, co-founder and Medical Director of Apian Limited, a healthcare logistics company using drones. Hammad is a highly accomplished professional with extensive experience in the medical and entrepreneurial sectors. Hammad discusses the benefits of drones to deliver pathology samples to a central laboratory facility or medication between hospitals cheaper, faster and in a more carbon efficient manner. After presentations, the floor is opened for questions, comments and discussion, since we believe this is where others can adapt their technology and ideas for their own commitment to a sustainable healthcare system. We hope that this webinar stimulates your appetite to engage in a sustainable environment for your national health service.
