John Hoskins Memorial Service
The Clerk, the Master and Brian Fishwick, Past Master, attended the Memorial service of John Hoskins, Liveryman, at The Lady Chapel of St Albans Cathedral on the 8th January 2026.
John had been in the Royal Artillery for 27 years and many of his friends and former colleagues attended and gave tributes to him. A large number of family, friends and colleagues from his business life attended the memorial highlighting what a kind, generous and popular figure he was. Reference was made many times regarding his generosity which manifested itself in many ways, not least of which was his time mentoring and helping others.
He attended Livery functions regularly and will be sorely missed by many.

Professor Jim Lynch OBE has been awarded the Oxburgh Award by the InstMC– given to any person whose contribution to measurement, instrumentation and control in the field of environmental science and engineering is of outstanding merit.
Liveryman Andrew Ramshall retirement gift
Liveryman Andrew Ramshall was pleased and proud to receive this last week in recognition of his time at CEC and Jodrell Bank. This has been made from the original reflective surface of the Lovell Telescope and part of a tree from the arboretum.
Scott Greenwell receives Freedom of the City
The Master was pleased to attend Freeman Scott Greenwell’s Freedom of the City ceremony on 7 January 2025. This now means he can join us as a Liveryman and we welcome his application.

Mr Aubrey Dunford newly installed Master, assisted by the new Senior Warden Mr Jim Webster and the new Junior Warden Mrs Jane Fishwick, hosted the Admission Court Dinner of the Scientific Instrument Makers’ Company held in Scientific Instrument Makers’ Hall on 19 October 2023.
Liveryman Prof Lisa Hall awarded MRC Prize
Congratulations to Professor Hall, Professor of Analytical Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge, as one of only two winners of the 2022 MRC Millenium Medal. Professor Carlo Rubbia becomes Honorary Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers of London
Nobel Laureate, Professor Carlo Rubbia, was appointed as an Honorary Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers at its Court meeting on 27th April 2022.

Liveryman Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter OBE Chairman of Coltraco Ultrasonics is honoured that his company has won The Queens Award for Enterprise 2022. High-exporting, advanced manufacturer Coltraco Ultrasonics won the Queens Award for International Trade in 2019 and are honoured to win it again in 2022 for Outstanding Growth in international trade over the last three years.
