Cornish Award donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity

This year the Cornish Award chose to honour Sir David McMurtry’s memory and the remarkable work he and Renishaw have achieved by supporting the hospital. InstMC presented a medal and the Scientific Instrument Makers presented £1,000 to Philip, son of John Deer, co-founder of Renishaw, at the Admission Court Dinner in October. John Deer than asked that it be donated to Great Ormand Street Hospital as they were the recipients of the Renishaw Robot.

Each year, the WCSIM works with the excellent charity Primary Engineer, which delivers a structured course that introduces and supports primary school teachers in how to teach engineering.

STEMPOINT at SIM 2024

It was a delight to see so many young science, technology and engineering students sharing their work through the STEMPOINT poster session at the Hall. The range of assignments – supported by universities, research institutes and commercial businesses – was incredible and included gene mutation research, quantum entanglement, biometrics, machine learning, generative AI and many more subjects. I was privileged to be asked to present award certificates to the students who demonstrated great dedication to their projects. – Jim Webster, Master.
